These tasty wolfberries are one of the best source of antioxidants available, and can be used in cooking or snacking like raisins.  They are traditionally used especially for their nutritional benefit to the eyes.  The bright orange-red color is a type of beta-carotene, and was noticed to improve night vision centuries ago.  Antioxidants help protect our cells against oxidative damage from charged toxins or radiation, from solar to nuclear fallout radiation.  That is why a diet rich in antioxidants from many sources lowers our risk for cancer and genetic mutations.  Incorporating antioxidant-rich foods into your diet such as with Wolfberries (now popularly called Goji berries, I learned them as Gou Qi Zi (pronounced Go Chee Zi as in Zip).  i have eaten them for years, but when I was just a Traditional Chinese Medicine student, the Chinese pharmacies I worked in had standard fumigated herbs, and they gave me symptoms like sore throats or night sweats.  I thought I was Yin Deficient, so I ate more of them.  Anyhow, that's why I stick to Plum Flower and Spring Wind herbs when I can, as they have taken these issues seriously and have procured and lab-tested clean herbs.

Why Sulfite Free?
Sulfites, aluminum chloride, and chlorine (bleach) are the most common preservatives used in Chinese herbs. These are intended to prevent molding/spoiling and preserve the appearance of freshness of the herbs. However, many people are sensitive to these preservatives or prefer to have herbs without them. With proper drying, sealing, and packing (often nitrogen packing them to displace oxygen), herbs do not need fumigation. Plum Flower is currently the only company offering this advanced type of packing. While many companies do not label their fumigated herbs to indicate that they contain sulfites, many are fumigated. The FDA only requires labelling of sulphites applied at over 10 parts per million, but the final dosage will vary greatly with the end use of the herbs. Plum Flower also batch tests their herbs for heavy metals, specific pesticides, and salmonella, etc. Certificates are available by request.
