Chinese Medicine for Women
In ancient China, uncomfortable PMS was considered an imbalanced condition, not a normal part of a woman's life. Therefore, Chinese doctors (and mothers!) developed many herbal and acupuncture treatments to eliminate menstrual pain, stress, and tension. Chinese Medicine also offers excellent support for menopause and aging women, as the elderly were always revered in Chinese society.
There are several herbal formulas which are designed specifically for common menstrual complaints. Xiao Yao San (Free and Easy Wanderer's Powder) is one. It's main herbs are Dang Gui (Angelica sinensis) and Chai Hu (Bupleurum spp.). It serves to 'smooth the liver' to take care of cramping pains and emotional distress during the menstrual cycle. Some women, especially if they have other supporting signs and symptoms, benefit from taking it for an extended period of time. This formula has very impressive results for many women, though it's not for everyone. It almost definitely increases serotonin levels, leading some women to call this their "Happy Pills." Yet it doesn't have the common side effects of SSRIs, such as weight gain and loss of sex drive.

Ancient Way has several forms of this formula (and others) available. The most recent and exciting is a fresh powder we make of the whole herbs. This is *the* traditional preparation of Free and Easy Wanderer Powder. We don't make this until it's ordered. That way, the essential oils of the mint, ginger, etc. are still present, as opposed to many of the products we've tasted from Chinatown, which have been on the shelf far too long. We also can send out the bulk tea or prepared tablets. Free and Easy Wanderer is also available in powdered extract form, which dissolves easily into water, teapill form, which are economical and easy to swallow, and tablet form from the U.S. herb manufacturer Golden Flower.
